just a thought...

i typed this in response to a friends post on facebook, where he was bashing Komen for essentially changing their mind in regards to funding. my friend took the pro-life, anti-abortion and even went so far as to speak about Truth, capital T. anyway, here's my response:

"while we're on the topic of people caving...how about obama's appointing ex Monsanto VP to the FDA? wtf is up with that? we all pick and choose our battles, it seems. i don't know why people get into eachothers business regarding gay marriage, abortion and other topics which have no bearing on the larger contingency of society like, say, food for instance, which we all need to survive, last i checked. we're being poisoned, and the dude who a lot of people voted for just ushered in another death merchant. make no mistakes, have your ideals by all means just don't push them on people. let's get together over the things that matter, clean air, clean food clean water and sustainable living...otherwise, all the ideals we fight about won't even exist because we won't either."

and i mean it, i don't want people to think the same or act the same or homogenize in anyway EXCEPT for a way that supports firstly, our home (the earth), our family (human beings) and our corporeal sidekicks (plants, animals, herbs, elements, etc). we're all in this together. a pro-life or a pro-choicer, neither is resilient to foods with toxic chemicals in them. The religious convert and the atheist alike are prone to new diseases that will evolve with the rampant spreading of genetically modified foods. i know there will be a time, probably far in the future, where human beings will look back, as a full grown individual with empathy looks back on their childhood and says, wow, i'm glad i was able to change.

1 month down and a lifetime to go

ahoy there food friends,
i'm happy to announce that i have NOT fallen of the face of the earth. i'm just a terrible blogger, obviously. i can only hope to post more in the coming months as things get very, very exciting.

some highlights:

• Wifey can COOK! this isn't really news to me as she's demonstrated over the past 15 years (YEP 15 YEARS) that she knows how to construct a delectable lasagna, and other pastas, stir fry's, mexican delights and other food stuffs. I will say, with the seemingly limited items we now cook with and eat, her skills are really shining. Upcoming posts will feature all the foods she's been cooking with pictures.

• I've tried, and got hooked on, Raw Milk. When asked how it tastes, my mind immediately goes to melted ice cream. Real Ice Cream is Cream, obviously, not milk. and Raw, real milk tastes closer to sweet cream without the viscosity that most cream has. It's silky, smooth and utterly delicious. ( i'll wait for the groans...) ok.

• The only item we bought at a grocery store was Raw Milk. I've sourced some raw butter and other cooking oils so that's going to be helpful. In the next month we're going to start making some home made salad dressings. Wifey already concocted one with nothing more than Olive Oil, Walnuts and Garlic. And it was crazy good.

• Farm fresh, pastured eggs are the BEST. We have to get to our local farmer's market rather early-ish to get them before they sell out. They are massive, mostly brown speckled and light as a feather when i cook them. I've been cooking up a potato, garlic and then i'll crack and egg over it and add some salt and pepper. And, of course, it's accompanied by a tall glass of raw milk.

some upcoming plans...

• Dubble Z Gardens....this is our backyard. I'll start taking more pictures as my garden boxes are completed and the dirt and soil is delivered. We'll be growing corn, beans, strawberries, squash, greens, onions, peppers, herbs, grapes, blue, rasp, and blackberries and we'll be adding some chickens in May.

• I play on creating a timeline starting at the FDA/USDA's inception up to present day so we can all have an easily accessible document that lets us know who is writing the food laws in our country.

OK, it's Feb and we're going strong. Kids are still eating their usual foods with a few more fruits added in. My old buddy Rusty was in town and he helped build my most recent garden box; 20'x4'. thanks pal.

That's it for now.
